Overview

In the world, there are some 200 million people suffering from incontinence. In Australia, there are over 3.8 million incontinent adults.

The problem has always been around, but with a growing population of elderly people who are living longer, we are seeing more and more people with incontinence.

This thirty minute course will provide an understanding of the different types of incontinence and their causes, and the kind of care someone affected by incontinence requires.

This course provides an introduction to the area of incontinence care. The course explains the different types and causes of incontinence, basic anatomy and physiology as it relates to incontinence care and the range of treatments and lifestyle interventions available. The course has been designed for carers, nurses and managers within aged care facilities.

Learning Outcomes

This course has been designed to increase awareness of:

  • The different causes and types of incontinence
  • Some basic anatomy and physiology, and
  • How the condition is managed

By the end of the course, learners will have: A greater insight into the experience of those you care for, and be better able to provide care for those affected by incontinence.

  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Functional Incontinence
  • Faecal Incontince
  • Incontinence and Ageing
  • Individual Resident Assessments

Estimated duration
The course will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Target audience
The course is aimed at anyone working in the Aged Care sector required to undertake incontinence training.
