Overview

This course developed with content experts from TENA, creates an awareness of the issues around management of incontinence of those affected by dementia. Designed for nurses and carers, the course explains different types of dementia and associated behaviour, and the best way to approach incontinence management for those affected by dementia.

Learning Outcomes

Increase ability to organise incontinence care to accommodate the special needs of residents with dementia with specific reference to:

  • Resident well-being
  • High caregiver workload
  • Making it easier for residents to toilet themselves
  • Choosing appropriate products to facilitate self-changing and toileting
  • Interacting appropriately with residents in incontinence-related situations
Course Content

The course will cover topics like:

  • Common types of dementia
  • The typical behavioural impact of dementia
  • Good practice dementia-related incontinence care

Target audience
This course is aimed at any staff working in an aged care facility required to undertake incontinence training.
